Pro. Francesco Murano

Italian national treasure lighting designer / Professor at Politecnico di Milano's School of Design

Special lecturer at Marangoni Design Institute

Founder of Quitiliani Murano Studio

Judge at the Milan ADesign Award competition

Pro. Francesco Murano

Pro.Francesco Murano is hailed as a "national treasure lighting designer" in the Italian design community, not only for his ingenious lighting design solutions but also for his dedication and persistence in lighting design. Pro.Murano graduated from the Domus Academy and was a student of many Italian design masters, including Ettore Sottsass and Atelier Mendini, who were his mentors. His lighting presentations are representative of the rare Italian elegance style in Italy today. His lighting designs for art exhibitions are at a master level.

Lighting has the greatest impact on the success or failure of an exhibition; good lighting can enrich the content of an exhibition, while inappropriate lighting can greatly detract from even a master's work. Italy is one of the world's most important venues for art exhibitions, and many significant art exhibitions held in Italy each year are completed with lighting design and guidance from him and his studio. For instance, major art exhibitions held in Italy featuring the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, Picasso, Monet, Banksy, Andy Warhol, and others have involved Pro.Francesco Murano and his studio in their lighting design.

Pro.Francesco Murano said: "This is my 9th visit to China, and I feel very happy every time I come. What's most special is once again collaborating with SANTAN Lighting, meeting everyone again at this location, on this podium as last year; I am very grateful to SANTAN for allowing me to communicate with everyone once again. In the coming days of training, I will share projects I have done and some things I am currently working on; these four days will be filled with a wealth of knowledge to share with all of you."

Project Sharing

Pro.Francesco Murano shared his high-end art projects on-site. In Italy, one needs to have extensive experience in lighting design to engage in the most prestigious field of art lighting. In the morning, he explained the theoretical aspects of lighting, design techniques, and details handling; in the afternoon, he delved into the analysis of high-end art projects and presented some very impressive art exhibition cases.

Additionally, Pro.Francesco Murano shared the challenges he encountered in practice and the solutions he applied, providing valuable experience and inspiration for the participants. He also introduced the design concepts of artists during the creative process. The entire course offers participants a comprehensive understanding of the high-end art lighting field and stimulates their deeper thinking and exploration in this area.

"Interactive Exchange

Many designers at the scene actively posed questions, and Professor Murano provided one-on-one answers, while also offering high-quality lighting design solutions to the elite designers.
